Cars older than 15 years will be available for scrap metal starting in September, reports the Environmental Fund, Rador reports. The president of the institution, Laurenciu Neculaescu, said that the cost of the program will be 500 million lei and will be implemented with the support of administrative and territorial units.
Car owners would have to hand over the old car for scrap metal in exchange for the sum of 3,000 lei. Half of the premium for recycling will be paid from the budget of the Environmental Protection Fund, and half from the local budget, and recycling will not depend on the purchase of a new car.
Romania has proposed, through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, to decommission up to 250,000 cars over 15 years old by 2026. Local administrations will submit applications for participation in this program, and in one registration session it will be possible to receive financing for up to 100 used cars – for settlements with a population of up to 1,000 inhabitants, or 50,000 used cars for cities with a population of more than 200,000 inhabitants. The authorities of our country support the renewal of the national car fleet by providing recycling bonuses through the Rabla Classic and Rabla Plus programs
