The president of the Senate, Alina Gorgiu, believes that the UDMR should be evaluated by the Romanian government’s activities, and not by the statements of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, which caused a sharp reaction at the European level, writes news.ro. She admits that the reaction of the UDMR leaders to Orban’s defense “was not the most joyful”.

“Why not seriously engage in the measures we discussed (regarding reducing the impact of the energy crisis – no), but wait for a change in the government’s formula now, because the Prime Minister of Hungary, who is not a member of the UDMR, is not part of the coalition, or did he some absolutely outrageous statements? (…) I am convinced that the UDMR also learned a lot from this episode, and I vote to be much more careful in communicating with a leader who is now challenged by Europe and who is seen as a secondary voice of the Kremlin’s policy,” the Senate President said on Sunday on Prima TV.

When asked what she thought about the fact that the leaders of the UDMR came to the defense of Viktor Orbán, Gorgiu says that it was “not the most joyful reaction.”

“It was not the most joyful reaction, but at the same time I believe that the UDMR should be judged by the actions, the activities of the government in Romania, and not by the excuses or justifications they found for some outrageous messages of the Romanian Prime Minister. Hungary,” the NLP leader added.

Ghorgiou declined to comment on statements by his fellow party leader, PNL Satu-Mare leader Adrian Kozma, that the UDMR was operating “under the keys of Budapest.”
