
Very high risk Fire (risk category 4) is forecast tomorrow, Sunday, August 21, for the five regions of the country, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.
In particular, a very high fire hazard is predicted tomorrow (risk category 4) for the following regions:
- Ionian Islands region
- Western Greece region (Achaia region, Ilia region)
- Region Peloponnese (Messinia PE, Laconia PE)
- Crete region (Chania region)
- Attica Region (Kitheron Island)

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection advises citizens to be especially careful and avoid activities in the open air that may cause a fire by negligence, such as burning dry grass and twigs or cleaning residues, using machines that cause sparks such as circular saws, welding machines, using outdoor grills, smoking bees, throwing lit cigarettes, etc. Also, the General Directorate of Fire Protection reminds that during the fire season, burning fields is prohibited and calls on citizens to immediately report to the fire department in the event of a fire by calling 199.
At the same time, the 2nd stage of combat readiness of P.S. and there will be air surveillance patrols as well as fire, police and military patrols.
In addition, the fire service personnel of the above regional divisions have been put on partial alert to cope with the increased maintenance requirements that may arise due to the very high risk of fire (risk category 4).
At the same time, in the above areas, an Action Plan for civil protection against risks associated with forest fires is being implemented, in accordance with which, among other things, it provides for the implementation of a preventive ban on the movement of vehicles and the stay of tourists in national forests, forests and “vulnerable” areas.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crises and Civil Protection, in cooperation with the fire department, has informed the competent public authorities involved in the service, as well as the regions and municipalities of the above regions, to be on high civil protection alert in order to immediately respond to any fire.
The fire brigade addresses the citizens:
- Be especially careful and avoid any activity that could start a fire.
- To monitor forest fire prevention information available on the website and official accounts of the fire department, Facebook and Twitter.
- In the event of a fire, they must immediately report to the fire department at 199.
Finally, P.S. calls on all citizens to be especially careful, and in the event of a fire, for their own safety, to conscientiously follow the instructions of the competent authorities.
