Iga Sviatek no longer shows the incredible form of the first part of the season, the world leader recorded four defeats after the victory at Roland Garros. The Polish woman criticizes the organizers of the US Open, whom she accuses of creating unnecessary differences between women and men.
The balls used in the women’s competition are lighter than the men’s balls at the 2022 US Open
Iga was defeated by Madison Keys in the third round in Cincinnati, and the Pole, while participating in the WTA 1000 tournament, showed her displeasure with the decision of the organizers of the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year.
According to the leader of the WTA, in the tournaments leading up to the US Open (as well as in the Flushing Meadows competition), different balls are used for women than for men.
Sviatek, as well as other important players of the world tournament, do not like this.
The Pole does not see the logic in this decision, as Iga believes that women are physically fit enough to play in the same conditions as men.
The Pole claims that the lighter balls are the basis for more mistakes on women’s tables: “they are difficult to control and I don’t understand why they are different”.
“I think they’re terrible, they’re getting better. You can’t even serve more than 170 km/h because the balls will fly like crazy,” added Iga Svyatek.
Paula Badoza, the fourth player in the world, fully agrees with the words of the Pole: “unfriendly conditions for the players, there will be a lot to lose in the show,” says the Iberian.
The US Open will be held from August 29 to September 11 at the Flashing Meadows complex and will be the last Grand Slam tournament of the world tennis season.
