Russian company Gazprom will suspend gas supplies through the Nord Stream pipeline for 3 days from August 31 to September 2. The company announced this on Friday, August 19th.
Gazprom explained this step by the need to carry out scheduled maintenance and preventive maintenance of the Trent 60 gas compressor unit at the Portovaya (CS) compression station, which is responsible for pumping raw materials through the pipeline. The Trent 60 is currently the only unit in operation, the company said.
The work will be carried out jointly with experts from Siemens, the Russian side added. After the maintenance, the gas supply will be resumed in the amount of 33 million cubic meters per day, assured Gazprom. This will equate to about 20% of the pipeline’s production capacity.
Russia still hasn’t removed the turbine from Germany’s Nord Stream
Meanwhile, Russia has yet to withdraw the Siemens turbine for Nord Stream from Germany, which has undergone maintenance in Canada and has been in Germany since mid-July. According to a Siemens Energy representative, Moscow continues to cling to documents and make ridiculous demands. The part must be transported to the Russian Federation by truck, so references to the current low water level in Germany’s rivers, which prevents equipment delivery by river transport, play no role, the German company’s representative said.
In June, Nord Stream lines were interrupted for 10 days
In June, Gazprom drastically reduced the flow of gas through the Nord Stream pipeline. The Russian company explained this by the premature return of the Siemens gas turbine after repairs in Canada. And from July 11 to 21, both ropes of the pipeline were stopped due to planned maintenance. In Germany, which receives most of the Russian gas consumed through Nord Stream, political reasons are considered to be the reason for the reduction in supply.
