Fuel: prices should not fall further News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your inbox

In recent days, the prices of gasoline and diesel fuel have been falling. Unfortunately, nothing spectacular and we are still very far from the amounts shown in 2020, with a liter of unleaded barely above the 1.40 euro mark. However, motorists are now refueling with a little more peace of mind, while fuel has fallen below two euros again, a liter now turns more 1.75 euros on average. Of course, this is still very high, but it is much lower than what we experienced at the beginning of the year. Indeed, we remember that at many gas stations the prices exceeded 2.40 euros per liter. Thus, refueling today is less painful than before. But will this decline continue?

The situation is stabilizing

Unfortunately, the answer is no. At least, that’s according to Olivier Gantois, spokesman for the French oil industry and president of Ufip Energie Mobilité. In the microphone of France Info, the expert declares that the fall should not continue because of the war. He notes that fuel prices tend to remain very high. He also emphasizes that if there is a fall, it still remains relative, because the price of a barrel always hovers around $100. According to him ” in my opinion, we will remain at these prices until the end of the year war in Ukraine […] It will be the same at the gas station, except that the 18 cents government rebate will go to 30 cents“. So there shouldn’t be any improvement in the next few months.

Uncertain decline

Therefore, it is now very difficult to predict what will happen in the coming months. Indeed, the price of oil should change depending on the geopolitical situation, regardless of whether there is a war in Ukraine or not. If this were the case, the price of fuel would continue to be very high. Nevertheless, motorists can count on it state discount, which is currently listed at 18 cents, but will drop to 30 cents in September and October. Then it will decrease again, and by the end of the year it will disappear. This allows drivers to reduce fuel costs somewhat, even if the price per liter remains very high.
