Russia is constantly bombing the northeastern front in Kharkiv to lock down Ukrainian forces and prevent them from being used for counterattacks in other regions, Britain’s Ministry of Defense said on Friday, Reuters reported.

Kharkiv, which is about 15 km from the Russian front line, has been bombed continuously since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine because it is in the range of most Russian artillery, British military intelligence said in an assessment on Friday morning.

Seventeen people were killed and 42 injured in two Russian attacks on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, on Wednesday and Thursday, the governor of a Ukrainian region said.

Russia denies that it deliberately targeted civilians during what it calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine.
