Apple disclosed the vulnerability on Wednesday and Thursday and said it could have been exploited by hackers. As an immediate measure, users are advised to update their Apple devices.

This applies to all iPhone generations from the 6S to the present, and all tablets from the iPad 5 and iPad Air2.

The vulnerability is also present on Mac computers.

Apple did not say when it discovered the vulnerability or what the risks were. Sophisticated companies like Israel’s NSO take advantage of various vulnerabilities and exploit them to install spyware on target phones.

The most sophisticated spyware installs itself without noticing or clicking on a suspicious file.
