Romania’s men’s team finished 10th in Thursday’s qualifiers and missed out on Saturday’s European Championship final in Munich, but earned a “ticket” to this year’s World Cup. Gabriel Burtanete will perform in the finals of jumping events.
Thursday’s qualification had a triple stake: medals in the individual events, teams qualifying for the finals on Saturday and athletes qualifying for the event finals on Sunday, the final day of competition.
In addition, another stake, perhaps the most important, representing the goal set by Germany, was the qualification for the World Cup in Liverpool (October 29 – November 6), where the first 13 teams ranked in Thursday’s competition, which also includes Romania.
The tricolor team of Andrey Muntyan, Gabriel Burtanete, Robert Burtanete, Rezvan Mark and Roland Modoyana finished 10th (241,829 points) and will have a chance to compete for one of three world medals at the World Championships in Liverpool in November, a result that automatically qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
In the individual-composite category, Gabriel Burtanete had the best rating, 17th (80,732 points), followed by Rezvan Mark in 18th (80,299).
In the event finals, Romania will be represented by Gabriel Burtanete on vault (average score 14.733, 3rd place).
Team finals will be held on Saturday, and subject finals on Sunday.
Also in Munich, a week ago, the Romanian women’s team missed the final, but they also qualified for the World Cup in Liverpool, writes News.ro.
