If we set aside the Lohner-Porsche, created at the beginning of XXthousand century by Ferdinand Porsche, then the Porsche Type 64, launched in 1938, the first production Porsche was Porsche 356which was produced between 1948 and 1965.
Derived from the Volkswagen Beetle, also designed by Ferdinand Porsche, the 356 was equipped with an air-cooled flat 4-cylinder engine located in the rear overhang. Initially produced with a power of 40 horsepower, and later more sporty versions appeared, including the Carrera 2 and its power of 130 horsepower.
Porsche: 911, an icon since 1963
The most symbolic and relevant model of the brand is undoubtedly Porsche 911issued with a circulation of more than a million copies since 1963. Today, the model came out on the 8ththousand generation, type 992.
In 1975, the model was released in the Turbo version with Porsche 930, equipped with a 6-cylinder turbocharged flat engine located in the rear overhang. Porsche: experience with a front engine
In the 1970s and 1980s, Porsche experimented with a front engine Porsche 924 and 944, developed jointly with Audi and released in 1976 and 1981 respectively. They had a four-cylinder engine placed in the front longitudinal position and rear-wheel drive. Even today, these models have their fans, even if purists prefer the Porsche with the “Flat 6” engine in the rear.
In 1978, Porsche also launched Porsche 928, this time with the V8 engine still housed under the front hood. The model distinguished itself by being recognized as the European Car of the Year in 1978, and was mainly successful in the United States. In 1992, Porsche revives the experience of the front engine with Porsche 968which officially replaces the 944.
Porsche: modern models
In 1996, Porsche diversified and offered other models that contributed to the expansion of the brand’s clientele: we find, for example, Porsche Boxstera small convertible equipped with a Flat 6 from 204 to 266 horsepower, which is available in a coupe version called Cayman. This model brought Porsche out of the financial crisis and paved the way for other models such as the sedan. Panameraor SUVs Cayenne and macaque.
More recently, in 2019, the Porsche company engaged in electric mobility Porsche Taycan, a sedan equipped with a high-performance 100% electric motor, available in several versions, crowned by the Turbo S and its 761 horsepower. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 260 km/h.
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S has (again) officially become the fastest electric car at the Nürburgring, beating the previous record held by the Tesla Model S Plaid. https://t.co/cNP06Fz7Qc
