Porsche fans have been waiting for this for months. Here at last is the queen of 911: GT3 RS ! And for this new generation (992), Porsche did not go astray. Aero is twice as perfect, six-cylinder flat overclocked to the maximum, excess carbon… What to do with it the terror of track days world! We tell you all about the most extreme 911 on the road.

Aero racing car!

At first glance, it is Porsche 911 GT3 RS shocks even those who are used to the 911 “GT”. Aerodynamic elements swarm around the body, while others hide inside or under the car. The result is worth it: the downforce has been doubled compared to the previous generation (991.2), reaching a maximum of 860 kg of downforce (at 285 km/h). We enter the realm of racing cars…

Of course, the most visible member of this support is giant fin. Like the vast majority of instruments adorning the GT3 RS, this one is active and controllable. Combined with other applications, different driving modes and the “DRS” button, it can infinitely change the angle of attack. The goal is to always offer maximum aerodynamic characteristics in any conditions, without disturbing the balance of the car.

Up front, those hoping to fit their helmets and bags into the standard 911 trunk will be disappointed. The latter was replaced by large air vents. They are used to redirect hot air from the all-new racing-style radiator. The active vane at the front is combined with internal flaps that allow the 911 to improve the level of support on the nose according to the conditions. Air is also routed around the front wheels to exit through a large recess at door level. Aeronautical work is sometimes imperceptible, because the front suspension should have been contour to optimize the air flow there.

But if the aerodynamic work is the most noticeable element compared to the “classic” 911 GT3, the work does not stop there. The the undercarriage was reworked, as well as extended tracks and wheels. There are new shock absorbers now adjustable from the steering wheel, compression and rebound, front and rear. To the delight of track day geeks, who will be able to avoid spending hours under their car adjusting the settings before a session at the track! The adjustable elements from the driver’s seat do not end there, as pilots will also be able to adjust the characteristics of the controlled differential.

Despite numerous aerodynamic additions, reworked interior plumbing, larger dimensions and all new systems, this new Porsche 911 GT3 RS ran the risk of falling victim to a nice increase on the scale. But the Weissach engineers put her on a diet. Most body panels are now in carbon : doors, hood, “trunk”, spoiler, roof, front fenders… As a result, this new generation remains under the 1500 kg bar against the 1450 kg claimed by Porsche. Or about sixty less than the 911 GT3 “all short”. However, this value is achieved in the best possible configuration: fully optioned, with the Weissach package (+ €36,696!), carbon crossbar and magnesium wheels… And all this at a price significantly higher than the claimed €234,977. the “base” 911 GT3 RS.

Beware of options: the price rises to more than 300,000 euros!

As for the engine, we feel that Porsche is starting to push the limits of its naturally aspirated six-cylinder. Indeed, this engine produces only fifteen horsepower compared to the GT3 to achieve 525 hp They will be reached high in the towers, to the delight of purists. The PDK dual-clutch gearbox has been slightly revised. As for the performance, the speed is indicated from 0 to 100 km/h 3.2 secondsand the maximum speed is limited 296 km/h, aero requires. But you got it, the purpose of this 911 GT3 RS is primarily cornering, and monitor performance.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS type 992 is already available to order and, as usual, will not be limited in its production. On the other hand, places on the waiting list are expensive, and speculation should be impressive in the coming months for used models… Especially since the entry price is already significant: count over 300,000 euros for a well-chosen model in the online configurator without taking into account fines!
