Russia – Turkey: a contract for the second group of S-400s was signed

Russia and Turkey have signed a contract to send a second batch of S-400 anti-aircraft systems to Ankara, TASS reports. The TASS agency quotes the words of the head of the Russian military cooperation service Dmitry Shugaev: “I want to note that the corresponding contract has already been signed.”

On the Turkish side, a Turkish official told Reuters on Tuesday that “there are no new agreements.” “The initial contract signed with Russia for the purchase of S-400s already included two batches. The purchase of the second lot was included in the original plan and the corresponding contract,” the official said. “Therefore, we do not have specific events that would be worth reporting. The process is underway, there are no new agreements.”

The first delivery of the S-400 to Turkey in July 2019 angered the United States, Ankara’s NATO ally, which in response imposed sanctions on representatives of the Turkish Ministry of Defense and excluded the F-35 fifth-generation fighter from the program.
