UN Secretary-General António Guterres will travel on Thursday to Ukrainewhere he will take part in a trilateral meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoganas stated today by his representative.
“At the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Secretary General will be in Lviv on Thursday to attend a trilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Ukrainian leader,” Stefan Dujarric said at a press conference, adding that António Guterres will travel to Odessa on Friday, and then visit Turkey.
The dominant issue at the trilateral meeting is expected to be grain exports from Ukrainian ports, which have resumed under a recent UN-brokered agreement. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric added that Guterres would also discuss with Zelenskiy the security of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and the prospect of finding a diplomatic solution to end the war.
After the lifting of the Russian blockade of three Black Sea ports, it became possible to export hundreds of thousands of tons of grain from Ukraine. The United Nations stressed that the agreement softens the worsening of the global food crisis.
On Saturday, the UN Secretary General will visit the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul, which includes officials from Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations, which oversees grain and fertilizer exports.
