The Russian Embassy in Great Britain has announced that YouTube has removed 29 videos from the channel of the diplomatic mission without warning, and is demanding that the platform restore them and apologize, accusing the American company of discrimination, reports the Russian news agency TASS. Most of the recordings are interviews with Russian Ambassador Andriy Kelin, who has made several controversial statements since the beginning of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia demanded that YouTube restore all the videos deleted on Monday from the channel of the diplomatic mission and apologize for the discrimination.
“On August 15, YouTube removed a total of 29 videos from the embassy’s channel without warning. The majority of them were interviews with the Russian ambassador to the UK, Andriy Kelin (between March 2 and August 15, 2022). These interviews covered a wide range of topics: Russian-British relations, the world food and energy crisis, the situation of compatriots abroad, the inadequate sanctions policy of Western countries, as well as an explanation of the goals and objectives of Russia’s military special operation in Ukraine,” the Russian Embassy in Great Britain reported.
“In this regard, we consider the removal of video content from the embassy’s channel a gross attempt to limit our information activities and, most importantly, to deprive the channel’s audience of a source of true information. We ask the YouTube administration to restore all deleted videos, as well as apologize to the Russian Embassy in London for unjustified, excessive and discriminatory actions,” the British embassy added.
At the time of publication of this news, the official Facebook page and website of the Russian Embassy in Great Britain are down.
