
Sorana Kirstya reached the second round of the tournament in Cincinnati, our athlete moved from the 12th favorite to the “WTA 1000” competition on Tuesday.
Sorana, who is ranked 40th in the world, defeated Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic (11 WTA – Olympic champion in Tokyo), score 6-2, (3)6-7, 6-4. The victory took place after a match that lasted two hours and 37 minutes.
Kerstya won her second win over the Swiss after a 7-5, 6-2 win at the 2021 Grampians Trophy in Melbourne.
Sorana also faces a very difficult mission in the second round: she will meet Petra Kvitova (28 WTA), after the athlete from the Czech Republic beat another athlete from Switzerland Jill Teichmann (21 WTA), the result (2)6-7, 7- 6(4), 6-3.

The Western & Southern Open is the last tournament before the US Open 2022
A WTA 1000 category competition, the tournament will be held on hard from August 15 to 21, 2022. Its total prize money is $2,527,250 and there are 64 players at the start of the main draw. The reigning champion is Ashley Barty (now retired), who won the title last year.
