The American company Apple demanded that the video hosting Rutube hide the materials from the state media of the Russian Federation in the application for the iOS operating system. This was reported on Monday, August 15, by Russian state news agencies, citing Rutube’s press service.
“Apple proposes to solve the Rutube app’s moderation issue in two ways: make the app available only to Russian users, or remove the “state-sponsored media” content. This will result in the Rutube app being unavailable to new users from other Those users. who have previously downloaded the app, updates will likely be available,” cites the Interfax press service.
Apple took two weeks to make a decision, otherwise the app will be removed from the App Store.
Video hosting is not intended to hide content
Representatives of Rutube said they would not impose restrictions on the distribution of Russian state media as it “violates the rights of the Russian-speaking population”. At the same time, access to the app was limited to three countries. Now, only residents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan can download it.
Many Russian media and bloggers are represented on Rutube, whose channels have been blocked from hosting YouTube videos. Among them are Channel One, Russia 1, NTV, Russia 24, TNT, RT, Spas, as well as channels from TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov, pranksters Vovan and Lexus, blogger Dmitry (Goblin) Puchkov and others.
