Simona Halep, an emotional speech after winning the tournament in Toronto

Simona congratulated her opponent on her progress this week and thanked her coach for helping her rekindle her love of tennis.

“Thank you all! It is very difficult to start because there is so much to say. Today was a great battle. Thank you Beatrice for fighting on the field, congratulations on your game, you gave me a lot to work with.

Canada is a special place for me. I’ve won twice in Montreal, but never here. I worked very hard to win here for all the Romanians who always came here to support me. It was an incredible atmosphere created by Romanians, Canadians and Brazilians.

Patrick, thank you for believing in me even though I wasn’t playing very well. A few months ago, I didn’t think I could win this title, but here it is. I hope I made you proud, I didn’t play the way I wanted to but I fought.

Also thank you Arnaud (nr Arnaud Restifo), thank you Candice (nr Candice Gohier).

Thanks to the organizers for their efforts, thanks to the sponsors and the ball kids for making me lucky. I took a picture with them today and it definitely counted” – Simona Halepat the award ceremony.
