Prime Minister of Estonia Kaia Kallas once again complained that the lack of travel restrictions in the Schengen area for Russians is an “unfair” burden for Russia’s neighboring countries, dpa and the Guardian reported.

The Baltic states of Estonia and Latvia have already tightened entry rules, while Finland is considering similar proposals. But Germany and the European Commission reject the general freezing of Russian tourist visas.

“Europe has banned flights from Russia to Europe. This means that Russians can enter Europe only through three countries – Finland, Estonia and Latvia,” said Kalas.

“So it’s not really fair that all the other Schengen countries are issuing these visas, but the three of us are actually carrying the burden,” she charged.

Kallas said the Kremlin’s hostile response to the debate over travel restrictions showed that the travel ban on Russian citizens could be an effective tool to complement other sanctions.

Callas tweeted on Tuesday: “Stop issuing tourist visas to Russians. Visiting Europe is a privilege, not a human right. It’s time to put an end to tourism in Russia.”

In response, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev compared Kallas to a “Nazi”.

Also on Tuesday, Sanna Marin, Prime Minister of Finland, said that “it is unfair that while Russia is waging a brutal war of aggression in Europe, Russians can live a normal life, travel around Europe, be tourists. Not right.”
