More than 2,700 drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol during checks carried out by the police in eight prefectures of the regions of Western Greece and the Peloponnese in the first seven months of 2022.

At the same time, about 115,000 traffic violations were confirmed in both regions over the same period of time.

In particular, according to official police data provided by the Athens Macedonian News Agency, for the first seven months of 2022 in the prefectures of Achaia, Etoloakarnania and Ilia, in the region of Western Greece, and 1140 drunk drivers.

In fact, the highest number of violations, reaching 196, was confirmed in May last year, and the lowest, 130, was confirmed in March last year.

In the prefectures of Argolis, Arcadia, Corinthia, Laconia and Messinia in the Peloponnese region, more than 87,500 breathalyzer tests were carried out in the first seven months of 2022, during which about 1,600 drunk drivers were detected.

The largest number of violations, namely 482, was confirmed in April last year, and the smallest – 113 – in January last year.

Meanwhile, in the same context of police checks to ensure the safe movement of vehicles and citizens, and to prevent and prevent traffic accidents on the entire road network, in the first seven months of 2022, about 62,350 traffic violations.

The majority of the violations, ie 10,827, were for speeding, another 3,414 violations were confirmed for not wearing seat belts by drivers of vehicles and another 2,305 for non-use of helmets by drivers of two-wheeled vehicles.

In the five prefectures of the Peloponnese region, about 53,000 violations of the Code of Conduct were confirmed during the same period.

And in the Peloponnese, the most violations, i.e. 12,730 related to speeding, another 1,704 confirmed for not wearing helmets by drivers of two-wheelers and another 1,289 for not using seat belts by drivers of vehicles.

It should be noted that most violations of the Code of Conduct, both in Western Greece and in the Peloponnese, were recorded in May last year.

In particular, 10,183 violations were confirmed in Western Greece and 8,546 in the Peloponnese. The lowest number of violations was recorded in Western Greece in February, reaching 7,372, and in the Peloponnese in January, where 6,081 were confirmed.

In addition, as part of the verification of violations for the first seven months of 2022 in the region of Western Greece, it was found, according to the police, that 1352 vehicles did not pass the road control, and the number of relevant violations in the Peloponnese region reached 903.

In addition, during the same period, 206 drivers were found talking on a mobile phone while driving in Western Greece, while the corresponding number of offenders in the Peloponnese reached 403.
