Employees of “Novaya Gazeta” launched a new media called “Espaço Livre”. “This is not just a new media, whose materials, despite draconian conditions, are prepared by the Russian newsroom of Novaya Gazeta, but also a service. The principle of this service is an open content builder, the details of which each of our readers and accomplices (thanks to which we and created) assembles by itself. The main building element of the builder is a signature”, said the editors in a message published on Thursday, August 11.
On the Espaço Livre website, readers will be able to subscribe to Novaya Gazeta titles that interest them, as well as materials from individual authors of the publication, which they can follow. In addition, the website allows you to subscribe to materials from other publications, as well as content from Telegram and YouTube channels. “The builder already in the first version will aggregate all the subscription sources of your choice on the main page in chronology”, reads the message. The creators of “Free Space” note that any user’s signature set will be confidential. Neither other users nor the editors of Novaya Gazeta will see it.
Novaya Gazeta suspended publication after the start of the war in Ukraine
In March 2022, Novaya Gazeta announced that it was suspending publication of the post on its website, social media and in paper until the end of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The editors explained this decision by the fact that they had received a second notice from Roskomnadzor, for which “the newspaper cannot continue to function”. NG journalists who left Russia launched the Novaya Gazeta.Europe project abroad, and shortly afterwards it was blocked in the Russian Federation at the request of the Public Ministry.
In mid-June, Novaya Gazeta editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov announced plans to publish NO. In mid-July, it was launched by NG journalists who remained in Russia, but exactly a week later, at the request of the Attorney General’s Office, its website was also blocked in the Russian Federation.
