The American fashion magazine Vogue did not publish in 1939 on its cover a photograph of Adolf Hitler and his lover and later his wife Eva Braun. Claims to the contrary, recently made public by users of the social networks Twitter, VK, Telegram and Facebook, are not true, a spokeswoman for Vogue magazine told DW on Thursday, Aug. 11.
After Vogue magazine published a photo of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hugging his wife Elena on the cover in July, some netizens began to draw analogies between this photo and a supposedly published photo of Hitler and Brown in 1939. Some users made comments such as “The history repeats itself” and asked themselves: “Do you mean pictures like this when you talk about European values?”
“There was no such cover in Vogue. In the magazine itself, these photos were also not published”, emphasized the publication’s representative in response to a request from DW. In 1939, Vogue was published twice a month. However, none of that year’s 24 issues featured a cover photo of Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun. This can be seen in the journal’s archive available on the Internet.
Hitler photo manipulation
It is worth noting that the photo of Hitler and Brown itself, which was passed as an illustration for the cover of a famous fashion magazine, was manipulated. In fact, it also portrays Johanna Morell, the wife of Hitler’s personal physician Theodor Morell. She is between Hitler and Braun.
