Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) has been selected as the best player of the 2021/2022 season in the Champions League. The Belgian Courtois (Real) became the player of the final of the Champions League, and De Bruyne (Manchester City) entered the top three nominees for the third year in a row (he was chosen as the player of the season in the Premier League).

How the other nominees for UEFA Player of the Year turned out:

4 Robert Lewandowski (Bavaria, Barcelona and Poland) – 54 points

5 Luka Modric (“Real” and Croatia) – 52

6 Sadio Mane (Liverpool, Bayern and Senegal) – 51

7 Mohamed Salah (Liverpool and Egypt) – 46

8 Kylian Mbappe (Paris and France) – 25

9 Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid and Brazil) – 21

10 Virgil van Dijk (“Liverpool” and the Netherlands) – 19

11 Bernardo Silva (Manchester City and Portugal) – 7

14 Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool and England) – 2

The list of 15 was selected by UEFA’s technical research group. The 3 best players were chosen by a jury, which included clubs that participated in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League in the 2021/2022 season, as well as a group of journalists selected by European Sports Media.

Jury members awarded five points for first place, three points for second place, and one point for third place. Coaches could not vote for their team’s players.

The winner will be announced on August 25 in Istanbul at the Champions League group draw ceremony, along with the winners of the Men’s Football Coach of the Year, Women’s Footballer of the Year and Women’s Coach of the Year awards.

Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are nominated for the title of the best coach of the year in men’s football, writes News.ro.
