Former Channel One journalist Marina Ofsyanikova, who gained international notoriety last March when she stormed into a studio holding a “No to war” banner during a news broadcast, is again arrested today for “slandering” the Russian military, her lawyer said.
“At the moment we are in a pre-trial detention center. Ofsyanikova has been charged with “spreading false information” about the Russian military, her lawyer Dmitry Zakhvatov said.
This morning, employees of Russian law enforcement agencies broke into the journalist’s house.
According to Zakhvatov’s lawyer, the search of the house may be related to the recent action of a journalist in the center of Moscow, near the Kremlin, during which she held a banner with the inscription: “Putin is a murderer, his soldiers are fascists.”
Following the tightening of the relevant laws in Russia, actions that discredit the Russian armed forces are punishable by imprisonment for up to 15 years.
Recall that Ofsyanikova was fined at the end of July, as she was found guilty of slandering the Russian armed forces because of her posts on social networks condemning Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.
