
July was very hot, absolute temperature records were broken in the west of the country, and there was almost no rain in some places. Sulina, Arad, Bacau, Ploiesti, Cluj, Constanta, Dei, Vaslui and Titu are among the cities that saw very little rain. According to the climate profile for July published by ANM, southern Dobrudja and eastern Danube Delta had less than 10 mm of precipitation in July 2022.
The average temperature in July 2022 was between 7.4 °C at the weather station Vf.Omu and 26.1 °C at Drobeta-Turnu Severyn. The highest values, above 24 °C, were recorded in most of Muntenia, Oltenia and Dobrudja, in the west of Banat and Crisana, as well as in the south of Moldova.
In July 2022, the absolute minimum monthly temperature at one weather station, the absolute maximum monthly temperature at 16 weather stations and the absolute maximum monthly precipitation at one weather station were exceeded.
There were several places where new July absolute maximums were set: +40.3 C in Sekuen (Bihor), +38.2 C in Shiria (a municipality in Arad, known for its super hot nights), +39.6 C in Chisinau – Krysh and + 31.9 C in Russia-Montana (where the record was exceeded by 1.6 C).
The National Academy of Sciences notes that the deviation of the average air temperature in July 2022 from the median of the standard reference interval (1991-2020) across the country was positive. Large deviations, more than 2.0 °C, were recorded in large areas of Banat, Krishana, in the north-west of Transylvania, in the districts of Oltenia and Muntenia, and separately in the mountainous area. Values above 2.4 °C were recorded only in Banat, Krishan and the western half of Transylvania. The highest deviation value was 2.7 °C at Shiria, Timisoara and Turda weather stations.
Analyzing the severity classification of thermal anomalies for July 2022, it can be seen that the thermal regime was warm in most of the country. It was very hot in large areas of Muntenia, Oltenia and in small areas of southern Moldova. The 34-year-old record was broken in Chisinau Krysh, as well as in Baishoar.
The record at the high-altitude weather station Vlădeasa 1800 was also broken: +28.8 C.
At one weather station, the record for the monthly absolute minimum was broken: +9.9 C in Oltenit on July 19, when most of the country had a cool night.
In Banat, Krishan, central and northwestern Transylvania, and central and southern Maramureş, temperatures were very hot and especially extremely hot. Isolated in the highlands, it was very hot. The thermal regime was within normal limits only in the eastern half of the Danube Delta.
Total rainfall in July 2022 was below 30 mm in most of Dobrudja, large areas of Moldova, Oltenia, Muntenia and Krysana, north and north-west Banat and north-west Transylvania. Values between 30-75 mm were recorded in most of Transylvania, Maramures and Oltenia, in the west, center and north-east of Moldova, in large areas of Banat and Crisana, in areas in the centre, north and north-west. Muntenia and locally, in Dobrudja. In most of the mountainous territory, the monthly amount of precipitation ranged from 75 to 150 mm, and in limited areas of the Southern Carpathians and in the south of the Eastern Carpathians, it exceeded 150 mm.
In the south of Dobrudja and in the east of the Danube Delta, the amount of precipitation in July 2022 was below 10 mm. The highest value of precipitation for this month was 198.6 mm, at the weather station Sinaia 1500, and the highest value of the amount of precipitation that fell in 24 hours in July 2022 was recorded at the weather station Câmpina. .
The deviation of precipitation in July 2022 from the median of the standard interval (1991-2020), calculated as a percentage, was negative in most of the country. High values of negative deviation, more than 70%, were recorded in the south of Dobrudja, Muntenia and Krishana, in the Danube Delta and occasionally in other regions.
The largest value of negative deviation was 89% at the Sulina weather station. Positive deviations were registered mainly in the mountainous area, but also in large areas of Muntenia and Oltenia, in other regions they were registered only locally or singly. The highest value of positive deviation was 104% at the Fokshan weather station.
