“According to the information provided by the consignor of Ukrainian grain on board the Razoni ship, the buyer in Lebanon refused to accept the cargo due to a delay in delivery,” the embassy said in a Facebook message. “So the shipper is now looking for another consignee to unload his cargo, either in Lebanon/Tripoli or any other country/port.”

“Razoni” left Odesa port last week, carrying 26,527 tons of corn. The vessel was due to arrive in Lebanon on Sunday, but changed its destination to the Turkish port of Mersin and is now anchored off Turkey’s southern coast, according to Refinitiv vessel tracking data.

The UN and Turkey struck a deal last month after warning that the disruption of Ukrainian grain supplies due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine could lead to severe food shortages and even famine in some parts of the world.

According to data provided to Reuters by the Ministry of Defense of Turkey, about 243,000 tons of corn were exported from Ukraine on seven ships since August 1.
