The Moscow City Court did not satisfy the appeal against the detention of the municipal deputy of the Krasnoselsky district of Moscow, Ilya Yashin, in the case of “dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the armed forces of the Russian Federation” (Article 207.3 of the Code Criminal Justice of the Russian Federation). The decision on Monday, August 8, was announced by Judge Anatoly Korolev.

“The decision of the Basmanny Court of July 13 remains unchanged and the defense’s appeal was not satisfied,” read Korolev. The meeting was held behind closed doors.

During the meeting, Yashin addressed the court: “You know very well that my arrest is illegal and that it reeks of dirty politics.” share my anti-war views,” he added, demanding an immediate stop to the “monstrous war with Ukraine” and the dismissal of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The reason for the case – broadcast about the massacres in Bucha

On July 13, the Moscow Basmanny Court, at the request of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, decided to detain the politician until September 12. The reason for starting the case was the April 7 YouTube broadcast where Yashin spoke about the massacres of civilians in the Ukrainian city of Bucha. The Moscow apartment of a politician serving an administrative arrest on charges of disobedience to a policeman was searched.

The punishment under Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation provides for “imprisonment for a period of 10-15 years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or carry out certain activities for up to 5 years”.

“I’m not going anywhere from here”

Ilya Yashin was arrested on June 28 under an article of disobedience to the police, he served 15 days in prison. This period ended on the night of July 13. Lawyer Vadim Prokhorov said on July 12 that a criminal case had been launched against Yashin.

In an interview with journalist Yuri Dudyu, Yashin said before his arrest: “Actually, of course, I’m afraid of prison, but even less do I want to leave my country. I’m not leaving here.”
