The size of the already huge sinkhole that was discovered in a copper mine in Chile.
Its dimensions have now reached 50 meters wide and 200 meters deep, that is, it is large enough to “swallow” the French Arc de Triomphe. It would comfortably fit the Space Needle in Seattle, as well as six statues of Christ the Redeemer.
Water was found at the bottom of the pit, which the authorities are trying to remove with the help of special pipes. Searches are also underway for underground chambers from which water could be removed.

Chile’s National Geological and Mining Service said it was still investigating a well near the Alcaparrosa mine, which is operated by Canada’s Lundin Mining.
All work at the mine was stopped, and the Service, as reported, imposed sanctions without giving details.
The management company did not respond to questions about the failure following the new developments, but said last week that workers were unharmed and were working with authorities to find out what was going on.
Local authorities are concerned and report that Alcaparrosa may have been flooded, possibly destabilizing the land.
It will be “something completely out of the ordinary,” Tierra Amarilla Mayor Cristobal Zuniga told local media.
