Renfe, the state-owned railway operator in SpainSuspended high-speed service between Madrid and Barcelona this morning due to cable theft, the company said.
Local police said on Twitter that a 19-year-old man was taken into custody after he was spotted near the train tracks near Santa Oliva, Catalonia.
Police are not ruling out the possibility of further arrests.
According to the announcement, Renfe has designated an alternative route to bypass the high-speed train network to take travelers from the Spanish capital to the country’s second-largest city, Barcelona.
