Amazon will buy robotic vacuum cleaner manufacturer iRobot for $1.7 billion. iRobot is famous for its Roomba vacuum cleaners, the cheapest costs less than 1,500 lei and the most expensive is around 6,000 lei.
These vacuum cleaners can be controlled via an app on your phone and can be programmed to turn on at specific intervals.
Amazon will pay $61 per share for iRobot, a 22% premium to the stock’s current price. Roomba released the first robotic vacuum cleaners in 2002.
Over the past two decades, iRobot has sold more than 30 million Roomba vacuum cleaners. Roomba products sold very well on Amazon, especially on Prime Day.
For Amazon, this will be the fourth largest acquisition in history.
In the second quarter, iRobot’s sales fell 30% from a year earlier to $255 million. The company’s net loss was $43 million, compared with $2.8 million a year ago.
