Andriy Kumov, a Russian special forces colonel, gave an interview that offers rare insights into how some Russian military officers view the war in Ukraine.
Kumov, who was awarded the title “Hero of Russia” by Russian President Vladimir Putin, is part of the anti-terrorist unit “Alpha” of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces, the dreaded GRU.
The interview was published by the Russian publication Pravda.
Answering a question about how the “special military operation” launched by Putin on February 24 is progressing, Kumov said that “I came to Ukraine with the aim of preserving peace. In the meantime, troubles arose because serious tasks were set that must be completed, but political the negotiations did not yield results.”
No: On February 22, the same night he recognized the independence of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in eastern Ukraine, Vladimir Putin announced that he would send troops “to ensure peace” in the two separatist regions.
A special forces colonel says that Great Britain is the “brains” of the United States
“The leadership of Russia understands that international law no longer exists. England has subjugated everyone and decides everything individually. She created a coalition again. Now they say that the USA does everything, but the USA is the arm of England, which is its brain,” says Andriy Kumov.
The Russian officer is then asked to comment on the anti-Semitic remark: “many people, including your colleagues at the Foreign Intelligence Service, believe that Israel is the mastermind behind the United States.”
“The brain of the USA is England. In all wars, Russia is constantly faced with those who were educated in Britain. England was our ally only when it was beneficial to her and when it could lead to the death of Russia,” Kumov replies.
“Now the British are watching very carefully how the Russian Federation will get out of the special operation, how great is its potential, not only military, but also human. During the Third Reich, a whole coalition fought against the USSR and tried to capture our Motherland,” he continues.
Kumov claims that Russia is now at war “with the Fourth Reich, because Ukrainian nationalists are acting according to the fascist model. Their methods of influencing the civilian population and prisoners of war are the same as those of the punitive battalions.”
Russian officer contradicts Moscow mass media
Kumov then claims that Ukrainian troops “immediately included residents of the DPR and LPR (and not the two separatist entities of Donbas) in the list of their enemies, all without exception, and do not treat them as citizens of their country.”
“And the fact that our mass media continues to promote brotherhood between our peoples, I consider it unethical to say the least, especially now. Prisoner of war nationalists should be shot,” he declares.
“We are fighting Nazism and fascism and our army is doing what our grandfathers and great-grandfathers failed to do. Denazification should be carried out using the same methods as during the Great Patriotic War, at least as in 1944-1945,” he continues.
“Our military and the president must feel the support of the people of Russia, and in this case we have a chance, opportunity and desire to achieve the goal that has not yet been set before us. And I, as a military man, do not understand where this place is, where the moment of victory awaits us,” the military man claims.
“Since 1941, our soldiers in the USSR knew that they had to reach the Reichstag in Berlin. And where is our “Reichstag” in Ukraine? We have known since 1941 that the enemy must be destroyed in his lair, so let’s find out where the lair of the Fourth Reich is,” he added.
The “denazification” of Ukraine is one of the main propaganda themes of the Kremlin and Russian television, as stated by President Vladimir Putin in a declaration of war, which he read early in the evening of February 24.
