Russia announced on Saturday that it is banning 32 New Zealand officials and journalists from entering its territory in response to similar measures taken by Wellington against Moscow after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, The Guardian reports.

The victims include Wellington Mayor Andrew Foster; Auckland Mayor Philip Goff; New Zealand Navy Commander Garin Golding; as well as journalists Kate Green and Josie Pagani, according to the press release of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The decision was made “in response to the sanctions imposed by the New Zealand government, which are increasingly affecting Russian citizens,” the report said.

In April, Russia imposed an entry ban on both New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and several politicians from that country.
