
American Jessica Pegula, the main favorite of the Citi Open tournament in Washington, left the competition of the WTA 250 category already in the 1/8 finals.
Pegula, who is ranked 7th in the world, was defeated by Australian Daria Saville (formerly Gavrilova). The athlete from Australia (88 WTA) won after an hour and 38 minutes of play with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
In the quarters, Daria will meet Rebecca Marino (111 WTA), after the Canadian defeated Andrea Petkovic (Germany, 68 WTA), score 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
Jessica Pegula was on the side of Simona Halep: they could meet in the semifinals of the competition.
The Washington City Open will be held from August 1 to 7. The tournament is part of the WTA 250 category. The total prize pool is $251,750.
