Worried about a possible energy crisis this winter, Germans have already started buying electric heaters for their homes. According to the data, 600,000 electric heating systems were sold in Germany in the first six months of 2022, which is 35% more than in the same period last year. Euronewsquoted by Rador.
An electronics store in Berlin is already sold out, as one employee explains: “Everyone wants to buy electric radiators, but they’re completely sold out,” he says.
“Maybe new stocks will arrive in September, October or November. Neither company can say whether they will be delivered because everything is completely sold out.”
Customers fear that the winter will be even more severe than currently expected. “I’m afraid there won’t be any problems,” says the woman. “If I don’t have heat and a person has a health problem, they might need a hot bath. We might not be able to take a hot shower in the future, I don’t know.”
Experts say Germany is likely to cut supplies by 30% this winter due to cuts in the Nord Stream pipeline that transports Russian gas to Europe. “Consumers will feel the impact,” says oil and gas expert Thomas O’Donnell.
“In Germany, we have already been told that the thermostats need to be lowered from 22 degrees to 17 degrees, maybe even lower,” he added.
