Akar’s new accusations: “Greece is plotting something against Turkey”

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar has leveled new accusations against Greece, saying “Athens is up to something” against Ankara as it increases its defense budget fivefold.

“They are conducting their own calculations against Turkey. They have increased the defense budget five times. This will not be enough against the Turkish armed forces,” Akar said in a TV interview with Anadolu news agency.

Indeed, he spoke of Greece’s “unnatural aggressive rhetoric and actions against Turkey” and asked Athens to act in accordance with “good neighborly relations” for dialogue.

The neighboring country’s defense minister added that Turkey poses no threat to its allies, stressing that issues between Turkey and Greece should not affect relations with the EU. and NATO with Ankara.

Regarding the US purchase of F-16 fighter jets, he said that Greece tried unsuccessfully to convince the United States not to sell F-16s to Turkey and announced a meeting of Turkish and American delegations at a technical level on August 15.
